RELEASE: Honeycutt Calls National Debt a Top Issue While Backing Law Adding Trillions to Deficit

Columbia, SC — In a Charleston City Paper article published today about the race for South Carolina’s First Congressional District, Charleston County Councilmember Jenny Honeycutt cited “the economy and national debt” as a top issue facing voters.

But Honeycutt has publicly supported and repeatedly defended the One Big Beautiful Bill, legislation projected to add more than $4 trillion to federal deficits over the next decade while leaving millions more Americans without health insurance.

The consequences hit South Carolina directly. An analysis of the law’s healthcare provisions estimates that roughly 120,000 more South Carolinians will be uninsured by 2034.

“Jenny Honeycutt can’t claim the national debt is her top concern while supporting legislation that adds trillions of dollars to the deficit,”  said SCDP Chair Christale Spain. “South Carolina families deserve to know what her agenda would actually mean for them: more debt and thousands more people without health insurance.”

While Honeycutt campaigns on concerns about the national debt, her support for the One Big Beautiful Bill puts her behind legislation that increases deficits while making it harder for South Carolina families to access health coverage.
